Five days after their defeat to AC Sportsman
in the Reserve Cup Final, the Sunday Reserves returned to
Barton Rovers to take on Division 3 Champions and County Cup
Winners St.John's in the Challenge Cup Final.
The league
meetings between the two teams had been close affairs, with
both sides winning their away fixture 2-1. The final was to
be more one-sided, however, as St.John's produced some good
football on a difficult pitch. They scored a magnificent
first goal with a strike after 20 minutes screaming into the
top corner and then raced into a 3-0 half-time lead.
Despite
our fears that St.John's might race away with it in the
second half, the Reserves came out fighting and pulled a
goal back through Tom Newland before eventually going down
4-1.
